Hello!

My name is Alba, and I’m 21 years old. Although I’m from Lleida, I’m currently studying computer science in Barcelona at FIB, UPC. Despite being enrolled in an engineering degree, my love for art—particularly music and photography—is immense. In fact, my long-term goal is to explore the frontier of knowledge between art and technology, and to find ways to blend music, photography, and technology.

Regarding music, I started playing the piano at age 8 and have continued ever since. I’ve especially enjoyed playing pieces like “In a Landscape” by John Cage, Michael Nyman’s “The Heart Asks Pleasure First,” and “Familiar” by Nils Frahm. On my 18th birthday, I was gifted a record player, which allowed me to start my own vinyl collection and explore my family’s old records—mostly from my mom and grandparents. Currently, I’m particularly interested in contemporary jazz and ambient music—two genres I find absolutely captivating.

As for photography, I am a self-taught amateur. My passion for photography goes back as far as I can remember, inspired by the amateur photographers in my family—mainly my dad and grandad—from whom I used to borrow cameras during family gatherings. My first steps in photography, however, came at age 10 when my uncle gave me an old camera. Today, I own a digital camera, which I use to take most of my photos, often during trips. In addition, I borrow my dad’s old analogue camera, which is very compact and handy, so I take it with me everywhere. I’m fascinated by both analogue and digital photography, and I approach them differently due to their distinct qualities.

To combine both arts (since I can’t choose a favorite), I’ve experimented with blending photography and music. So far, this has resulted in a series of short films that I’ve directed, produced, and composed. My exploration is ongoing, as my ultimate goal is to integrate the technological knowledge I’m gaining from my studies.

Besides music and photography, I’m deeply interested in literature. Reading novels has had an undeniable impact on my inner world and has significantly shaped my critical thinking. I’m particularly fond of psychological novels, thrillers, and classic literature. In recent years, I’ve also started reading academic literature, with a strong interest in feminism and, more recently, photography. Nowadays, I usually read two books at a time: a novel and an academic essay.
